The Suns – Big Trouble in Little Deva Tour [+]

£4 Entry

The River Dee may not be tidal, nor is it deep enough to surf, but somehow, somewhere, Chester groovers The Suns have managed to tap into the spirit of Link Wray, The Trashmen and The Ventures to claim the forgotten vices of tremolo abuse and spring reverb addiction as their own.

APPEARING ON Saturday, October 2nd, 2010

Baked A la Ska [+]

£4 Entry

Baked A La Ska are the “heavy heavy sound” of Manchester ska; an 11 piece band of assembled oddballs and pranksters brought together by keyboardist and wizard, Mr John Ellis.

Baked A La Ska are fronted by an un-holy trio of singers: Mr Frank “the Skank” (smooth Sinatra vocals), Tommy Robot (MC) and the soft lilt and harmonica magic of Robin Sunflower (vegan). Baked A La Ska feature one of the tightest rhythm sections in Manchester with the “chops to make you drop”.

Their sound has already taken audiences and clubs across the region by storm inspiring late night parties and frenzied dancefloor action. It’s a massive, uplifting and raucous mix of spooky originals with an unusual line in covers (each featuring potentially a worse pun than the last).

The Deadstring Brothers [+]

£4 Entry

From the classic rock echoes that hang heavy like the reefer smoke in the rafters of Detroit’s Cobo Hall, to the soul reflected in the alleys and small faces of London’s Heavy Load scene to the exile off Main Street, few bands channel the sonic groove generated at the headwaters of our rock-and-roll DNA like Deadstring Brothers.

They know that rock-and-roll is both disease and redemption, penalty and reward, intoxicant and hangover. They know that a powerhouse hook exhilarates even as you’re getting kicked in the heart. The Brothers, in their leather boots and frayed jeans, tenaciously trudge through the oil slick puddles of a dying city, the hard light splitting into prismatic rainbows, finding beauty in decay.

I Am Austin – EP Launch [+]

Free Entry

I Am Austin are a two-piece dance-rock duo from Connah’s Quay, North Wales.  Comprising David John Mitchell on vocals, percussion and Adam Hughes on bass they are self admittedly influenced by Death From Above 1979, yet still manage to have their own sound, these boys are going places.

Earlier this year they beat 3,000 other entrants in the Channel 4 Evo Music Rooms competition to be one of six bands to showcase their music on the small screen.  As well as the TV appearance they also won one-to-one mentoring from some of music’s biggest names, and a fully equipped recording studio to produce up to three singles.

This Thursday sees the launcgh of their latest EP.

Louis Barabbas and the Bedlam Six [+]

Admission £4

Many believe that the number of love songs in the world far outstrip the number of things with which one can fall in love. That is why Louis Barabbas & The Bedlam Six are doing their very best to readdress the balance, penning twisted dirt-swing about lust and loathing, served up on an exuberant gobbet of malicious delight. Stories about grieving lovers, thieving lovers and deceiving lovers seep from their songbook like a putrescent parade of painful parables. It’s strangely beautiful – but not very. Expect to hear growly narratives spat out over dissonant riffs coaxed from beat-up trombones, banjos, trumpets, saxophones, mandolins, cellos, violins, lap-steels, accordions, pianos and spoons.
Heavy, hairy and (mostly) in harmony
