The Suns [+]

Saturday 8th January – £4 Entry

The River Dee may not be tidal, nor is it deep enough to surf, but somehow, somewhere, Chester groovers The Suns have managed to tap into the spirit of Link Wray, The Trashmen and The Ventures to claim the forgotten vices of tremolo abuse and spring reverb addiction as their own…

“The Suns are one of the few bands around making real garage music with a totally contemporary feel. Live, they’re f**kin brilliant. They’re the kind of band I want to be in” (Clint Boon of the Inspiral Carpets & Xfm)

“Apart from the last song i thought they were fucking shite” (Some bloke stood at the bar at the catholic club)

“A little bit of Jagger’s swagger, a hint of Hendrix and a double dose of Morrison’s madness” (Stew Etcell)

“Jono’s deep croon, heavy use of maracas and Rutter’s glorious spaghetti-western guitar lines all pile up into an intoxicating stew that manages the rare and impressive trick of being universally likeable yet intriguingly original.” (Manchester Music Dash review)

The Fevers [+]

£4 Entry

Born from the demise of the semi-famous blueskins and the not at all famous scott fair band, the fevers formed as an experimental and adventurous 2 piece.looking to make some progressive electro/indie with artificial beats.

The duo (scott fair and tom bailey) quickly realised they didn’t have the money for drum machines and software and instead looked for living members which would inevitably be cheaper.  Insert Al here, the third member (al mcaddon) was kind of a happy accident.  Al, an old friend of Scotts from youth, stumbled into the boys in a soused manner on a night out and the subsequent drunken conversation about being rockstars lead to him moving in and joining the band.  The final member (officially on loan from the band ‘scams’) was hand picked after a performance witnessed by scott.  The rest as they say is history.  The band are continuing to write toe tapping funky, dancey, rocky, indie.  Pay attention!

The Loving Cup [+]

£4 Entry

THE LOVING CUP have developed their own brand of rockin country and blues Americana, drawing together influences such as Gram Parsons, Delaney and Bonnie, Ry Cooder and The Band.

Very much a ‘live act’, The Loving Cup’s sound was described by Mike Davidson of Gigwise in a review of a Liverpool Barfly gig as “a warm and soulful set of country-influenced rock‘n’roll. The Loving Cup possess a mean songwriting ability for creating driving anthems that positively beg to be blaring out from a soft top Chevy cruising Route 66”.

The Loving Cup’s reputation as a “good-time” rock‘n’roll band has been forged over recent years by performances across the UK on the Americana circuit and as regulars at the internationally recognised and respected Burnley Blues Festivals and The Great British Rhythm and Blues festivals. This has been complemented by live sets on BBC Radio Lancashire’s Blue Notes programme and live sessions for BBC Radio Wales.

The Loving Cup released their debut single in 2004; a double A-side of material from which one of the tracks, ‘Candyman’, received considerable television exposure as music for a Morrisons national advertising campaign.

Now The Loving Cup have finished recording their second album - Goofer Dust - which is released in the Summer of 2008. There are promotional copies available ahead of that upon request. Goofer Dust will be available to buy on digital download from itunes UK/Europe/USA, and from lala.com. Real copies of the album to hold in your hand (!) will be available to buy online through the band website very soon.

The Loving Cup have recently received airplay on the Radio 2 show God’s Jukebox. DJ Mark Lamarr described the track “Bring along your lovers” from the forthcoming Goofer Dust LP as “an instant classic”. The band will be performing a live session for this Radio 2 show at the BBC Maida Vale studios in September 2008. The band have also been included on the playlist for Bob Harris’ show on Radio 2.

BBC Radio Wales DJ and newspaper columnist Adam Walton likened the formation of The Loving Cup to a Dr. Frankenstein fantasy in which the mad scientist is reading his recipe:-  “Keith Richards’ brain’ – he won’t miss it. ‘Gram Parsons’ Country Lilt’, ‘The Swagger of Jagger’, ‘The Fingers from John Squire’s Left-Hand (currently unused)’, ‘The Allman Brothers’ Bottleneck’, Levon Helm’s Sense of Rhythm.’” – “Flippin’ heck! This nutter’s trying to bioengineer a supergroup!!!!”
