The Tapestry [+]

Free Before 9pm, £4 Thereafter

Forming in 2010, The Tapestry rapidly gained a following in their hometown of Manchester after their first few gigs. Taking their influences from Pixies, The Smiths, Fleetwood Mac, Flaming Lips and countless others, they released their first demo ‘My Phoney War’ that year, which landed them a slot at Manchester’s prestigious ‘In The City’ conference. After gaining word of mouth notoriety, in 2011 they were invited to Wales to record their first single ‘Rode Your Luck’, released in April, with top producer Marc Joy and engineer Andrea Wright, whose credits include Elbow, The Coral, Coldplay and Doves. The band released the single themselves to widespread critical acclaim, and through this success were able to self-release a second single ‘Take Turns’ in October 2011.
In the summer they played the first ‘Friends of Mine’ festival in Cheshire, curated by The Charlatans’ Tim Burgess, where after playing an impressive early afternoon set on a small stage, were then invited to play later that afternoon on the festivals Main Stage, before The Fall and The Charlatans themselves. In August they were invited as main support to Pete Doherty.
With extensive gigging around the UK, including a show at London’s legendary Water Rats in November, The Tapestry pick up an army of fans wherever they go, gaining a reputation for drawing a wild, ‘up for it’ crowd, often encouraging fancy dress and crowd participation, a night watching The Tapestry is always the best party in town.

dRUM wITH oUR hANDS presents An Evening of Music & Arts [+]

Free Entry

On the twelfth day, in the month of July, it’s going to get dark and weird in Telford’s Warehouse……

DRKMTR

Tearing up the rulebook since its inception in early 2011, DRKMTR is gaining acclaim with each live show. With a punk ethos fighting beneath a deftly crafted surface, the group create poetic tracks veering from ear-shatteringly industrial to beautiful, cinematic soundscapes. Performing all of this in front of a wall of TVs, DRKMTR are continuing to smash artistic boundaries – creating a shedload of noise along the way…

Half Avian

Half Avian are Maff Stenning and Mike Payne from Mechanical Owl. Describing themselves as “synthpop” you might be forgiven for dusting off a few Pet Shop Boys or Erasure records in preparation for the gig. However, that would be a mistake, as this show is an entirely darker affair.

With an undeniable talent for creating beautiful sonic textures and atmospheres they are the perfect band to play a gig with DRKMTR.

Bright Young People [+]

Friday 20th July 2012

Free Before 9pm, £4.00 Thereafter

Like all great bands, Bright Young People are more than their sum of their parts.

For all their primal rhythms, raucous guitars and searing vocals, it’s the whole that counts, not the constituent elements – the whole in this case being the best thing to come out of North Wales since the A55.

Long-time friends Lee Dawson (vocals and guitar) and Casey Ingram (drums) had been searching for a sound for some time, laying down the foundations for what would become Bright Young People.

The final piece in the puzzle came in the shape of bassist Jamie Cardno, and since the crystallisation of the line-up in late 2011,

The result is a raw, emotive sound, with nods to the garage-born sleaze of The Stooges and Velvet Underground and the balls-out stomp of Black Rebel Motorcycle Club, but crucially and emphatically, it’s a sound all of their own.

“Bright Young People” are coming. You’d be wise not to stand in their way.
