Gulp

(featuring Guto Pryce from Super Furry Animals)

Debut E.P. ‘Game Love’ out now on E.L.K. Records

‘Game Love’ video: http://youtube.com/watch?v=2jBMAPx_Pdo

Gulp are Guto Pryce , Lindsey Leven and a Roland MC-505 box donated to them by a kind yogi. They are joined by Gid Goundrey on guitar to enrich a sound which has been described as cinematic, dazzling and hypnotic.

Guto is bass player in Super Furry Animals and more recently toured with Sonic Boom’s Spectrum and psych-folk legend Mark Fry. Lindsey came from Scotland to Wales to study art and creates images, music and songs. She has previously played solo song and guitar based shows. The Roland MC-505 makes beats and bleeps. Not much is known about its past.

Gulp’s musical journey stemmed from Guto and Lindsey’s travels through the Scottish Highlands, Wild West Wales and the Californian Desert. They found themselves inspired by landscapes and camaraderie, acoustic and electronic grooves, filmic sounds and sweet melodies.

June 2012 saw the release of their debut single, Game Love, which featured Guto’s SFA bandmates Dafydd Ieuan on drums and Cian Ciaran on the mix plus special guest Gareth Bonello (The Gentle Good) providing acoustic guitar and cello.

“a thing of eyeball popping beauty that deserves to have psychotropic palm leaves wafted at its feet (and then, ideally, eaten)”  Artrocker 5 stars *****

“It’s an amalgam of 21st-century electronic squiggles and vintage airy psych-folk, as contemporary as video games and as old as the hills” Spin.com

“(Game Love’s) spooked demeanour suggests The Wicker Man getting fresh with Nancy Sinatra. That’s Gulp: easy to swallow, hard to forget” Guardian Guide Pick of the Week

Kathryn Williams presents – The Pond [+]

Monday October 15th – Tickets £16.00

Kathryn Williams is excited to announce that Neill MacColl will be joining herself and Simon Edwards alongside Jonny Enright (Keys + Trombone + Vox) and Richard Marcangelo (Drums + Electronic Percussion) for The Pond’s fully electric forthcoming UK dates, replacing Ginny Clee who has had to drop out of live activity for personal reasons.

Fans will already be familiar with Neill from his and Kathryn’s stunning 2008 album, Two, and some songs from that album will be getting The Pond’s otherworldly make-over on these dates. On their performing chemistry The Independent noted ‘They draw the best out of each other … Their telepathic understanding and vocals blend are breath taking.’

Says Kathryn, “We will also be ‘ponding up’ some older songs, like Just Leave from  The Quickening, All Apologies-  the Nirvana track from Relations – and even a couple of songs from the first record, Dog Leap Stairs.”

Kathryn has also announced herself as solo support for The Pond’s shows. This part of the show “Will be the quieter end of my spectrum” she reveals. “Mostly solo, and a bit with Neill MacColl. So there is a real juxtaposition between the two sets. I’ll be using tape echo and loops with my vocal – I’ve never messed so much with pedals and my voice before. Should be fun!”

During the tour the band will play a series of gigs in houses across the country. If you would like the chance to host a mini gig in your living room for you and your friends then listen up!

On each date of the tour the band will be available to play a short show before the main gig starts. To host a gig you need to live in the same city that the band are playing in and, ideally, live a convenient distance from the venue.

Drop One Little Indian Records an email at oli-social@indian.co.uk if you fit the bill.

A compelling performer. Underestimate her at your cost.
Irish Times

Lauded from everyone from Terry Wogan to Niall Stokes.
Hotpress Magazine

Turner is – always has been, in this writers opinion –
one of the most intriguing of Irish female song writers
Tony Clayton-Lea – Irish Times

There’s a pleasing asperity and knowing toughness underpinning the stylistic and
expressive variety of Turner’s singing….confidently cosmopolitan.
Susan Wilson – Scottish Sunday Herald

Her stage presence is the type that smoulders, drawing you in and making you
sit forward in your seat rather than dazzling and knocking you back on your heels…
…it’s impossible not to have been thoroughly charmed.
Maurice O’Brien – Hotpress Magazine

Juliet Turners’ music is vibrant, personal and deeply moving…a wonderful thrilling ride of innocent pleasure and carnal delight….frankly gorgeous.
Smyth Harper – BBC Manchester website

Turner is a self-conscious artist of broad vision, whose vocal style is beguiling, then winning….. so obviously you are going to listen, as tonight’s capacity audience did.
