Bob Log III in his blue full-body Cannonball man suit and a face-shield wired with a headset microphone is one of the best, fastest and strangest American Delta Blues Slide Guitar player of today

Bob Log III was born in Chicago, Illinois and raised in the suburbs of Phoenix, Arizona. Moved to Tucson AZ and now living in MelbourneAustralia

“You take a guitar, turn it up and have a good time” in the early 90’s he Formed together with Thermos Malling the incredible DOO RAG who’s pioneered the whole Blues ‘punk’ or Even Tekkno Scene at this time, the Band Split off and Bob Log (b. Robert Reynolds III ) continued alone as the One Man Band, Touring all over the Globe North America, Europe, Japan and Australia, Mexico, and Iceland.

he acquired a kick-drum and a homemade foot cymbal which he custom-outfitted with a kick pedal of its own. These instruments, combined with his slide guitar work, distorted telephone microphone vocals, and Boom-Chik-a-Boom drum machine accompaniment, form the framework on which Bob Log constructs his songs. Log describes his on-stage setup in the song “One Man Band Boom,” introducing himself to the audience as, “Bob Log the third, one-man band, Tucson, Arizona. Heyeeeh! Lemme introduce the band to ya. On cymbals, left foot. Over here on the bass drum we got right foot. Shut up! This is my left hand that does all the slide work, right hand does the pickin’. My mouth hole does most o’ the talkin’. And you’re looking at my finger.”

In the summer of 1998, Log signed to Fat Possum to issue his solo debut, School Bus; Trike, now signed with Voodoo Rhythm Records in 2008 for ‘my shit is perfect’

TOM WAITS : “And then there’s this guy named Bob Log, you ever heard of him? He’s this little kid — nobody ever knows how old he is — wears a motorcycle helmet and he has a microphone inside of it and he puts the glass over the front so you can’t see his face, and plays slide guitar. It’s just the loudest strangest stuff you’ve ever heard. You don’t understand one word he’s saying. I like people who glue macaroni on to a piece of cardboard and paint it gold. That’s what I aspire to basically.”

MILTON BERLE “Hey kid…. DO what thou wilt.”
ROBERT PLANT “Dear Bob, it’s been ages since Sweden.”

Following on from the success of our 1st ever beer festival last October, Telford’s is delighted to announce our first Meet The Brewer evening on Thursday, April 12th.

With the rise of microbreweries and good quality craft beers over the past few years, we’ve decided to take advice from the CAMRA website and host a Meet The Brewer evening. The aim being to allow our customers to meet the folks who produce their weekly tipples.

For our first evening we’ve invited along the good folks from Tatton Brewery along to pass on some of their knowledge.

On the night Gregg Sawyer, Owner and Head Brewer will be available to talk about his brewery and the beers they produce, whilst our friendly and skilled bar staff man the pumps. Here is a little overview of the brewery from their website :

Tatton Brewery is a family business, based in Knutsford in the heart of Cheshire. By combining a custom built modern brewery, an historic local yeast, and years of experience producing internationally renowned recipes we aim to brew Cheshire’s finest beers.

Our brewery has been specifically designed for consistency and quality, we know that each and every pint we deliver needs to be as good as the last.

We have 4 regular beers always available, complemented by seasonals and occasionals to add variety and a little fun to our range.

www.tattonbrewery.co.uk

The evening will run from 8pm until the pub closes at half past midnight, with Gregg available until 10pm. The first couple of hours will be ticket only, with our bottom bar area only for the beer afficionados, from 10pm it will be open to all.

Tickets are available from Telford’s bar or on the night at £9 / £7 on production of a valid CAMRA card. For this you will get the aforementioned option of meeting Gregg, 4 halves of the beers available and a pork pie. There will also be live music on the small stage in the main bar with Rusty Mahone and friends.

“Softly softly” is not a maxim that King King are familiar with. Since surging into life two years ago they have barely stopped for breath, and their electrifying sound and scorching live shows have generated more of a thunderous roar than a buzz.

Straight out of the blocks it was clear that King King is a band which knows how to make an entrance. An exhilarating debut at the Monaghan Blues Festival created such a stir that it prompted organizer Somhairle MacConghail to remark: “King King aren’t just playing the festival. Word is that King King ARE the festival”. With a reception like this there’s little surprise that the phone has been ringing off the hook ever since, and the last year has seen them bring their inimitable brand of multi-faceted blues rock to the Great British Rhythm and Blues Festival, the Edinburgh Jazz and Blues Festival, Abertillery Festival and even Glastonbury. This was in addition to a seemingly non-stop series of rousing live shows across the UK and Europe, much to the delight of the band’s burgeoning fan base.

In the midst of all this, a particular highlight of 2010 was King King’s invitation to perform within the hallowed walls of the BBC’s Maida Vale studios. The boys’ set went out on Radio 2 and won the approval of DJ and blues aficionado Paul Jones who was moved to remark: “Here at Radio 2, we think Alan Nimmo and King King are going to go all the way”.

Having signed to Manhaton Records, next came a return to Chapel Studios to record the eagerly anticipated debut album. King King are familiar faces having recorded their critically acclaimed EP Broken Heal at the studio, and again collaborated with the production team behind the Arctic Monkeys, Kaiser Chiefs and the Editors.
The resulting album, Take My Hand, is a bold and wildly enjoyable collection of songs showcasing King King’s unique sound, swaggering from Stones-tinged blues rock through throbbing funk to reflective ballad and back.

Laura J Martin hails from the suburbs of Liverpool with influences that ricochet between Serge Gainsbourg, Wu Tang Clan, David Bowie and Herbie Mann. Armed with a flute ready for wrangling, mandolin and a loop station, she sings over her loops and beats, songs inspired by subject matter as disparate as Japanese folklore to real life sentiments and characters.

As well as performing live on Rob da Bank’s Campfire Special (Radio 1), Laura has been invited on live sessions with Marc Riley (Radio 6) and Cerys Matthews, and enjoyed airplay from Gideon Coe and Nick Luscombe (Late Junction radio 3).

Recent activity involves a UK tour (as guest and support) with ‘Jonny’ (Euros Childs and Norman Blake) including a slot at Glastonbury. She has a host of solo gigs around the country supporting names such as ‘Scout Niblett’, ‘Bonobo’, ‘Little Dragon’ ‘Singing Adams’ , ‘Hannah Peel’ and ‘The Simonsound’ (with whom she also performs on their live set).Laura has just finished an improvised album with Euros Childs and Sweet Baboo under the moniker ‘Short and Curlies’, and is now working on an EP with Richard James (Gorky’s Zygotic Mynci).

She has had a string of releases including the single ‘Spy’, released this June with Static Caravan, (the AA side featuring Buck 65), and, ‘Inside Your Bones’ a single made in collaboration with ‘The Simonsound’, released with Battered Ornaments (Finders Keepers). Laura’s much anticipated debut album will be officially released in January, you can get hold of pre-release copies on her upcoming tour soon.

Do you enjoy affordable vintage style, or perhaps quirky creations made by local hands? Perhaps you’re a little strapped for cash after Christmas, or simply prefer to buy unique goods or items that have been made from lovingly recycled materials? On Sunday 5th February, Telfords Warehouse will be playing host to a Vintage and Handmade Fayre from 12-5pm. The event is free to attend, so why not pop along for a browse at some lovely local handmade and vintage stalls. From handmade jewellery, soaps and bath bombs, patchwork quilts and knitted lovelies, to vintage style clothing, collectables, inspired gifts and much more. After taking a look at all of the fabulous items we have on sale, you can also enjoy a beverage or sit down for a meal in Telfords Warehouse’s fantastic bar and restaurant.

Do you have any unwanted clothes that you think someone else would like to offer a new home? Why not take part in our Free Clothes Swap stall. Bring along any men’s or women’s clothing and bags in a good, clean condition and swap them for free at our stall. One ticket will be given per item, which you can use to purchase anything else our stall has to offer and give someone else’s unwanted outfits a little love.

For more information and a taste of what will be on offer on Sunday 5th February, check out our event page on Facebook ‘Vintage and Handmade at Telfords Warehouse’, or contact our team at vintageandhandmade@hotmail.co.uk.
