The Fevers [+]

Free Entry Before 10pm, £4 thereafter

Born from the demise of The Blueskins and the Scott Fair Band, The Fevers formed as an experimental and adventurous 2 piece.  Looking to make some progressive electro/indie with artificial beats the two(scott fair and tom bailey)quickly realised the didn’t have the money for drum machines and software and instead looked for living members which would inevitably be cheaper.the third member (al mcaddon) was kind of a happy accident.al,an old friend of scotts from youth, stumbled into the boys in a soused manner on a night out and the subsequent drunken conversation about being rockstars lead to him moving in and joining the band.the final member (officially on loan from the band ‘scams’) was hand picked after a performance witnessed by scott. The rest as they say is history. The band are writing toe tapping funky, dancey, rocky, indie.  Pay attention you may just learn something!

Trader [+]

“Trader have been propagating melodic seeds all over their hometown of Wrexham since 2006. They’re fresh-faced youngsters who’d get asked for ID in most of the pensioners’ watering holes I frequent. No surprises, then, that this track – Mi Amour – is resplendent in its wide-eyed, childish wonder. It’s a fine, anthemic tune that that refracts the brighter rays of Flaming Lips and Mercury Rev into something stirring and timeless. It reminds me of Roy Orbison’s In Dreams, too, in that it eschews a predictable verse / chorus structure in favour of throwing as many shapes into the air as possible. It maybe a little too eager to please or impress. But I prefer that kind of eagerness over faux insouciance disguising a barren imagination any day of the week. I don’t know about love, but me like this a lot.”
Adam Walton, BBC Radio Wales

The Cubical’s gritty, growly swamp blues has already earned some attention in circles where people place a premium on gritty, growly swamp blues. It really is quite a striking sound, and certainly if you’re a fan of gruff, grumbling vocals a la Tom Waits and Captain Beefheart, and you like your rock’n’roll primal and pounding, then you will definitely go a bundle on this lot.
