Baked A-La-Ska @ Funkdub
Saturday 23rd July £4.00 Entry
Bonkers ska troupe, Baked A La Ska, are coming to rip up the stage at Telfords Warehouse on Saturday, 23rd July with their heavy, heavy Manchester Ska sound. An 11 piece band of assembled oddballs and pranksters brought together by keyboardist and wizard, Mr John Ellis.
The 11-piece ska band specialise in taking legendary songs from all genres and mutating them to form infectious reggae stompers with their own unmistakable twist. Nothing is safe from the ska treatment: Beastie Boys, Frank Sinatra, Gary Numan and Jean-Michel Jarre have all had a thorough going over from the ska boys and you’ve never heard anything like it.
Classic ska toasting, a water-tight rhythm section, punchy horns and blissful harmonica: this is reggae-ska music out of the top drawer, whether they’re pumping out their uplifting original songs or infectious covers.
A true one of a kind, a Baked A La Ska gig is like nothing you’ve seen or heard before; their irie version of Survivor’s classic Eye Of The Tiger is surely worth a trip down to Telfords alone.
Baked A La Ska will feature support from the Funkdub DJs, now in their seventh year of mesmerising DJ sets together. Get down early: Funkdub founders 3DJ and Gentleman Kush will be spinning choice cuts from 8pm and again after the band until 2am.
