Crackling Vinyl presents Golden Fable & Pulco
Tuesday 28 February
Tickets £5 advance/ £6 door
Golden Fable are Tim McIver and Rebecca Palin.
The couple met in Manchester and were the driving force behind cult group Tim & Sam’s Tim & The Sam Band. After a heavy touring schedule, a highly acclaimed album and many radio sessions, the duo decided that it was time for a new challenge – Golden Fable was born.
Set up at their home studio in North Wales, dozens of songs were whittled down to a self-produced eleven track LP that is ready for release early in 2012.
Any illusions of a stripped back acoustic duo quickly dissipate when listening to debut single ‘The Chill Pt. 2’. Quirky beats and percussion introduce multi-layered synths, acoustic guitars and Rebecca’s choral vocal style, which bubbles up to a crescendo of electric guitars and duetting vocals. This lo-fi, folk-tinged pop that picks you up and takes you to another place.
The Chill Pt. 2 was self-released November 7th and led to a tour with The Miserable Rich, airplay on 6Music, BBC Radio Wales and XFM and culminated in a BBC Radio One Session at Maida Vale with Rob Da Bank.
Ashley Cooke began his musical journey in the critically-acclaimed Derrero ( (3 Peel sessions, 2 Peel festive 50 spots, tours with Gorky’s, Super Furry Animals etc). Since that band’s demise at the turn of the millennium, Cooke’s has released 5 acclaimed albums as ‘Pulco’. Pulco music is home-recorded lo-fi experimentalism – observational, poignant and at times laugh out loud funny. It includes poetry, found sound, ambient noise as well as songs deftly performed with little more than voice and guitar.
