Jozeph Roberts

Jozeph has been listening to acoustic music since his early teenage years and the innovative guitar playing of pioneering musicians like Bert Jansch and Davy Graham became particular favourites. The lyrical writings and songs of Bob Dylan and Donovan inspired many youngsters to pick up an instrument and Jozeph belonged in that category.

In the late 1980?s, Joz formed a duo with Mike Bowden and they called themselves ‘Masque’. Mike and Joz played at many venues both in England and over in Holland. This duo acted as a support for the late John Martyn in Burnley, Dick Goughan at Padiham town Hall and Richard Thompson at the international one club in Manchester.

By the early 1990?s he pursued a solo career playing mainly solo gigs at various folk clubs around Britain.

Moving forward to 2002, Jozeph decided to form Chorlton Folk Club as a complete acoustic venue. The club has grown in popularity and is a weekly fixture for many people in the local area. Visitors passing through add to the mix and you can never be quite sure what to expect. All credit to Jozeph for his commitment to the club for nearly ten years.

He continues to play at other venues outside the club and we do see him perform at the club on rare occasions. He has recorded recently at Ken Powell’s studio and the song, After the Dance which is part of his new cd features Ken’s partner Ruth on harmonies.
