Everything Is Now DJ Set [+]

Free Before 9pm, £4 Thereafter

everything-is-now

Tony (Anthony Green) Bear is a DJ, multi instrumentalist and composer based in Chester, North West England. As drummer and founding member of ‘ahead of their time’(!) psychedelic space funk pioneers ‘The Fourth Egg’, Tonys’ tentative steps into the world of music began in his early teens.

Throughout the 1990?s Tony studied music and media production at South Cheshire College, West Cheshire College and The North East Wales Institute (now Glyndwr University) in Wrexham.
Through gigging with his band, Tony met and became friendly with a bunch of local djs/promoters and there began his love affair with nightclubs, loud sound systems and entertaining audiences with music in a completely different way from just sitting behind a drum kit or playing the guitar.

“Having been a music fan for years I was already buying most of the records that my mates were playing in the clubs and when I got fed up with being in bands it seemed like an obvious and natural thing to do to switch to djing. It meant I still got the ‘gig buzz’ but without having to put up with a bunch of unreliable musicians and their ‘oh no yoko’ girlfriends.”

Over the next few years, through a combination of luck, bad luck, stupidity and dogged perseverance, Tony has gigged in and around the North West/North Wales/Merseyside area in a variety of different clubs and to a wide range of audiences. Tony was also a resident DJ at John Lockes’ infamous ‘Trash’ night (Fridays @ High Society, Rafaels, Love Street) for the best part of a decade.

“If you care about what you do, and as the years roll by, your appreciation and love for music deepens somewhat. Obviously, you’re going to want to express that when you go out and play music to people. When I go clubbing or to a gig, I want to hear a satisfyingly wide range of tunes plus a bunch of stuff I don’t know. That’s how we learn. I don’t want to hear the same beat all night or the repetitive nostalgia of somebody elses’ half remebered student yesteryears. But, hey, let’s not get all philosophical about this, it’s meant to be a laugh isn’t it?”

Tony is currently working on his own original music (because he misses being in a band, shhh it’s a secret) and is a resident DJ at Telfords’ Warehouse in Chester. He plays the first Saturday of every month under his ‘Everything is Now’ moniker.

” If you look back over the last fifty or sixty years of popular music, there’s literally millions of songs and records out there that still sound just as good today as when they were released. My mate Ed said ‘If it can be played now then it’s a now record.’ I tend to agree, but that’s only half the story. These days, when I DJ I want to blend all those hip tracks from back in the day with contemporary stuff because whether you like it or not, good music is being released all the time. I love big fat electronic beats, trippy bleeps and massive bass etc. It’s all about striking the right balance on the dancefloor… and having fun.”

Some artists to have played… Heymoonshaker, Banda Bacana, Freedom Of Expression, Cantaloop, We The Undersigned, Electric Swing Circus, Gabby Young & Other Animals, Honeyfeet

MYELEVENTHTOE [+]

Free Entry Before 9pm, £4 Thereafter

My Elevents Toe 1

David, Tom and Jason have individually been in successful original
bands through the 90’s and early 00’s. Jason (Bass) have joined David & Tom since both Emlyn Franks and Steve Nash departed. Steve’s departure was a difficult decision made from all parties. He had served well and we miss him. Duncan had been filling in brilliantly for a while with Steve being off for health reasons and had quickly learnt the set. David has known Duncan for some years and when the opportunity came for a more permanent place Duncan joined as a full time member. Jason answered an advert we put out within days and came along to audition with 5 songs from the set we gave him. After 2 songs we knew we had found an amazing bass player who just fitted in straight away.
The other 3 songs ended up being just a formality really. He had the job after the second song. Both Duncan and Jason are brilliant musicians and have taken the band and sound to another level. New songs are always being rehearsed, some work, some do not work and honesty with each other as a band is essential when picking and playing new songs. MYELEVENTHTOE pride themselves on delivering the very best show they can packed full of high energy, big powerful songs and crowd participation. It’s a Rock & Roll show and we guarantee you a very entertaining and amazing night. Come and see us to see for yourself.

Cracling Vinyl presents… Seazoo plus support Trecco Beis [+]

£4 Tickets On The Door

On Tuesday, 20th. January 2015, Crackling Vinyl is proud to present another night of brilliant live music and superlative vinyl excellence at Telford’s Warehouse in Chester.

Seazoo Panda Pains Cover

SEAZOO?2nd single ‘Panda Pains’ available 19th Jan 2015 on Label Fandango

SEAZOO is a Welsh bedroom-pop device happening now, consisting of five humans and a charity shop teddy bear.

New single, Panda Pains, will be released on Monday, 19th. January 2015 on Label Fandango (deceptively cute offspring of the legendary Fierce Panda record label).

The single will be launched with a live appearance at Telford’s Warehouse on Tuesday 20th January 2015. Support on the night comes from the hotly-tipped jangledelic South Waleans, Trecco Beis.

Welsh bedroom-pop group SEAZOO formed in April 2013. That summer, they self-recorded and released their debut EP ‘Ken’, gaining BBC and Amazing Radio plays.

Their debut single ‘Dog Hotel’ was released in October and received plays from Huw Stephens on Radio 1 and Steve Lamacq on 6Music!

Think Gorky’s Zygotic Mynci, Super Furry Animals, Yo La Tengo, Deerhoof and Pavement. All underpinned with the home-recording ethic of Granddaddy.

SEAZOO were on the 12 Horizons artists selected by BBC Wales and the Arts Council of Wales in 2013, leading to festival appearances and a live session at the BBC’s Maida Vale Studios.

‘This is thoughtful, proper and smart pop (with a wonderful twist of the abstract) in the spirit of Yo La Tengo and Gorky’s Zygotic Mynci.’LOUDER THAN WAR

‘The single, Dog Hotel, is a brilliant cross section of the band: lovely naughties guitar, touches of atonality, group vocals, bullfrog-mating-call bass line and spaced-out synths.’ARTROCKER

“pretty cool… loads of interesting sounding musicians”

Cerys Matthews, 6Music

“a set of evenings dedicated to genuinely brilliant  music.”

Ian Hughes, Daily Post

Crackling Vinyl began in November 2011 as an excuse for music enthusiasts, Adam Walton, Ben ‘Soundhog’ Hayes and Elin Bach to play their favourite records in their favourite music venue (Telford’s Warehouse, Chester) far away from the weekend madness of endless requests for the kind of R&B that wasn’t pressed on Chess Records.

Crackling Vinyl evolved to encompass live music. They would bring unique and acclaimed artists to Chester for the first time, at a very affordable price: a high quality watermark in a city keen to experience the best, upcoming touring artists.

Crackling Vinyl have DJ’d and compered the Walled Garden stage at Green Man Festival for the last 3 years.

Previous live guests at Crackling Vinyl have included: Sweet Baboo, Gallops, Paper Aeroplanes, Katell Keineg, Alun Tan Lan, Gulp, Zervas & Pepper, Euros Childs, Cate Le Bon, Laura J. Martin, Y Niwl, Colorama, Richard James, H. Hawkline, Mowbird, Cowbois Rhos Botwnnog, Toy Horses, T.G. Danny McLoughlin

Somewhat a local hero, with an amiable confident stage presence and a well written set Danny delivers material with more than just an immediate pay-off line, preferring to take the joke one or two steps further. Confident enough to take a risk on stage he does so not to the detriment of the audience, keeping them laughing along or hanging on every word. A bright future surely awaits.

Indigo Sky 1

Indigo Sky have been officially going since September 2011 when we got into a studio and recorded our first E.P. Over the first year we had tried to push into the cities around us such as Chester, Manchester and Liverpool. We succeeded and managed to work our way through the Surface Unsigned Festival in the Northern region which lead us to play venues such as Jabez Clegg, Dry Live and Academy 3 in Manchester. Out of the 200+ bands that entered in our region we managed to come 8th and just missed out on going to the international showcase.

Whilst in Surface Festival we were also in the middle of recording where the songs kept coming, in the end the project turned into an album! It took a year to complete and is now available to download on iTunes and Spotify.

REPENT feat. Nish Goyal [+]

Free Entry

Nish Goyal

Nish Goyal, born February 1986 is a British Singer/Songwriter from Chester, UK.  Having graduated in Law, he worked as a trainee legal consultant in the city before deciding to pursue stockbroking in Frankfurt, Germany.  After a few years in the corporate sector, Nish decided to make his passion, his career.  Hence, the brand ‘Nish Goyal’ was formed in early 2011.  His music has a very indie punk feel with a touch of folk in there, and is unique in its own way.

Although he started playing music and writing from a young age, Nish kicked off to a great start with his 1st album ‘A Little Validation’, which consists of 11 songs including the favourites ‘NDE’ and ‘My Hill’. This album shows exactly what Nish is all about.  The lyrics of all the songs have a huge range and mixture of emotions, bound to get the listener into the ‘feel’ of every song.

With the success from his 1st album, the 2nd project ‘the Hedonist EP’ was launched soon after and consists of the absolute favourites, ‘Sleep’, ‘Exactly What This Is’ and ‘Girl in the Black Dress’.  As mentioned by the post on the blog My Random Jukebox, “He has this talent to use his own life experience to mould the lyrics to tell some great and at times humorous stories.”

Being a world traveller the past 10 years, Nish has played in gigs and open mics all around the world, including countries/states in Australia, Europe, America and Asia. His fans can look forward to the release of his third project ‘the Rage EP’ in early 2015, which is an 8 track EP focused on the issues faced us in the modern age.

Chemistry Lane 1

Bridging the gap between the intensity and momentum of a rock band, and the clinical electro loops of dance floor hypnosis, Chemistry Lane surf waves of paranoia that redirect your gaze toward the illusion, like slight of hand in reverse.

Influences range far and wide from shoegaze and orchestral post-rock bands like Slowdive, Spiritualized and Godspeed! You Black Emperor, to new wave groups such and Talking Heads and Echo and the Bunnymen.  Recent appreciation for bands such as Deerhunter and The Phantom Band have allowed the group to unlock a new direction.

Chemistry Lane combine the dreaminess of experimental indie with a layered instrumental depth of sound that results in powerful, almost hypnotic melodies and warm spine tingling atmospheres.

“Melody twists through a perfect storm of oceansize guitars, dark grooves and brooding beats.”
