Voted #4 Best Female Artist of 2013 by Americana-UK.com Visitors Poll
Sleeping With A Stranger #6 on the Americana-UK.com Album Chart Dec 2013
Song ‘Falling For You’ in the Top 100 CBC Radio2 songs of 2013

Christina is a Canadian Singer-Songwriter, musician and performer. Her music achieves an effortless union between alt-country and rock with pop-sensibility.

Experimentation is the lifeblood of any artist. But occasionally they experience moments when everything comes into focus, and suddenly they have opened a door to a limitless creative future.

Christina Martin has reached that point on her fifth album, It’ll Be Alright, a 10-song collection that finds the Halifax-based singer-songwriter attaining what her music has always suggested, a place where the ghosts of her musical heroes freely mingle with pop-rock’s modern architects.

The album’s brilliance is its seamless blend of the past and present. The bridge between them is Martin’s voice, an instrument both haunting and immediate, traits that could also best describe It’ll Be Alright’s lyrical content. To say the album is Martin’s most accomplished effort to date is stating the obvious; what is remarkable is how her maturity has translated into her most accessible album to date as well.

LAZY HABITS UK TOUR 1

Influenced by New Orleans Jazz, Soul and Hip Hop, Lazy Habits blast their sound into the 21st Century with hard hitting beats and slick lyrics about modern British culture and urban life. The band describes their sound as: “Beats, Rhymes and Brass of the highest calibre.”

With the hype of upcoming sophomore album The Atrocity Exhibitionfully lighting the way, brass infused hip-hop trailblazers Lazy Habits are set to ignite the UK music scene once again with 12 new dates announced for April and May 2015.

Funkdub bring Lazy Habits to Telford’s on May 2nd where the Kicking the Clouds tour will be the first live opportunity to hear the seven-piece’s explosive new material, which has been garnering celebrity and industry support in the lead up to its anticipated release later this year.

First single ‘The Breach’ is set be unveiled on 20 February with an epic video featuring two huge actors in the making – Joshua Whitehouse from the recent UK hit Northern Soul and Taron Egerton, who stars in critically acclaimed Kingsman – Secret Service alongside A-List stars Colin Firth and Michael Caine, and who recently dubbed Lazy Habits his favourite act of the moment.

Filled with aggressively pounding beats and brass’(Altsounds) alongside slick lyrics about modern British life, Lazy Habits master infectious hooks and clever arrangements, making their stage show the benchmark others aim for and are one of the tightest and most powerful live performances in the UK. They haven’t just racked up a cult following at home though, with the band returning fresh from a string of sold out dates in Asia, where they arefamed for collaborating with Asian superstar rapper Dwagie’s alongside US rap heavyweight DJ Premier.

With everything going their way, these new shows will be anything but lazy for the Habits as they put on a colossal live experience, one that stays with you long after you’ve left the venue.

*Entry is free before 8pm & £4 after. These tickets are designed to guarantee entry after 8pm should the venue be at capacity. No refund will be given to early arrivals. For more information please visit our website www.telfordswarehouse.com or call us on 01244 390 090

Nurses For Angels Charity Night [+]

£5 Tickets

Angels Logo

Nurses for Angels are a group of Nurses who work in and around Chester.  We are organising a fundraiser event at Telford’s Warehouse in Chester on 5th May 2015 at 1900.  We are having a raffle/auction and have live music from Liverpool based band Tiro Lark.  Tickets £5 each.

Our main wish is to highlight the little-known-about genetic disorder Angelman Syndrome.  Our colleagues three year old son Jack, from Buckley, Flintshire was diagnosed with this twelve months ago and we feel it is important to raise awareness and we are trying to raise funds for Jack and his school, Ysgol Pen Coch in Flint.

Angelman Syndrome is rare with less than 1000 cases in the UK.  It is a genetic disorder affecting chromosome 15.  Jack has the most severe form as he is classed as ‘deletion’ rather than ‘mutation’ (part of the chromosome is missing, rather than abnormal).  This tiny thing causes severe learning difficulties, epilepsy, poor balance, many never talk or speak just a few words and many never walk.  85% of sufferers also start with Epilepsy, which Jack has recently been diagnosed with.  With all of this his mum Cheryl states “I am hopeful for Jack and will always stay positive for him and on the plus side, Jack is very happy, smiles all the time and laughs at the slightest stimulation”.

As Nurses we work every day helping members of the general public and it feels completely natural to us to use our spare time to help a colleague and a wonderful little boy.

Tickets can be bought from  the venue or any of us involved and all of our details are on our Facebook page ‘Nurses for Angels’ or on Twitter @Nursesfor.

The Cyborgs [+]

Free Before 9pm, £4 Thereafter

The Cyborgs is a two man band of ‘’elektrock’’ boogie.
They have their own dirty blues elektro shit and they play even some traditional songs of the early years of
delta blues.
The music style is really original, and even their appearance, ’cause the Cyborgs play wearing a black welder
mask; nobody knows their identity…they are the same thing in the same time. One point that is not sure is if they really wear a mask or if they’re like this.so how much of human there’s in their body is still unknown a story tells that they come from 2110 where there’s no more blues and the world is almost over (no sun light, no music, no dreams..); they came back from century to century to try to find information to keep the blues alive, and in their songs they sing about their world, and how much it’s wasted. Somebody tell that they wear a mask because they don’t know the sun light and they never seen the stars and the sky…
some other tell that they don’t want to show their face, as they sing in the song NO! NO! N O!: ‘’Save yourface….’’
In an interview the Cyborgs said: “we come from the future, in the present, to keep the past alive..”

Their name are “Zero” and “One”

Cyborg-0 sings and plays guitar with his never stopping chunky chunk thumb of his right hand

Cyborg-1 plays keyboard bass with his left hand, and drums with the other parts of his freaky body

Open Mic Night hosted by Jim Bazley with feature artist Peppino D’Agostino [+]

Free Entry

Open Mic as usual hosted by Jim Bazley with a feature performance from Peppino D’Agostino…

Peppy

Peppino D’Agostino emerged on the musical scene in the late 1980’s and helped redefine the boundaries of the acoustic guitar. His virtuosic technique, penchant for open tunings, and percussive effects are the basis of his unique compositional style which has been inspiring musicians and audiences alike for years. Add to that his natural warmth, playfulness, and broad musical tastes and you have the recipe for what he calls “minestrone music”. D’Agostino continues to evolve and grow in ways that would have been hard to predict when he was first showcasing his melodic yet emotionally intense style on the recordings Acoustic Spirit, Close to the Heart, and Every Step of the Way, which was named one of the top three acoustic guitar albums of all time by Acoustic Guitar magazine readers in 2008.

The Daymons

Coming straight outta Chester, via too many vias to get into, The Daymons got it together in late 2012, though their collective history goes back many more years… Jim, Tim, Guy… Through shared houses in lesser parts of London Town, call-centre drudgery and pre-dawn raves in abandoned cinemas… Through Britpop nearly weres, hard rock players, electronica, dub-step before anyone had called it that, and the world’s first ‘Roses tribute, these fellas have been around the block and beyond, landing back in the old town; same place, same time.

The trio in an attic, two acoustics and a muted trumpet … Let’s do it… Trio became quartet with Richie B… hair, vibes, folk and relative youth … Quintet then, with Fran, first time bassist and born to do it… Five in a pub car park, someone knows a drummer (someone always knows a drummer) … Five become six … he’s a drummer. Six of the best then… lots of guitars, a horn … lots of singers and more song-writers than a New York café in ‘66 … they’re doing it ‘cause they love it and, man, they love to do it.

“…clear and bright, full of movement and optimism. As a six piece they are musically complex yet open sounding and dis-tinct. There are some fabulous harmonies going on as the vo-cals switch and change from one performer to another. Here choruses add and amplify rather than diluting the songs… theirs is a great sound with melodies that stay with you.”

Rebecca Sowray, writing for Chester Culture.

Anna has been playing in and out of bands since 2010, supporting the likes of Emily and The Woods and Little Comets, now playing solo under the self- titled genre ‘naked noise’, securing support slots with Stu Larsen and a performance at 2014’s X&Y Festival. Anna’s music is heavily lyric based reflecting classic literature and poetry, including the works of Jack Kerouac and Allen Ginsberg, a huge part of her soon to be released ‘I Have

Oliver Townsley

Growing up in Scotland and Suffolk, Oliver first connected with music at the age of 15 when introduced to Damien Rice by his mother.

His love of the songwriting art lead him to the music of Springsteen, Cohen, and Waits, and more contemporary artists such as Laura Marling, Iron and Wine, and Mick Flannery. His passion for the stories and poetry in his influences’ work inevitably resulted in him taking up the pen himself.

However, it was busking on the streets of Chester that lead him to performing live. From the open mics and folk clubs to solo gigs around England, Oliver continues to write and perform his original songs and present them to his audience in Chester and Suffolk.

Recording was the next natural step and Oliver is now working towards his debut EP, First Train.

“Oliver has, with his outstanding voice and sensitive way with a guitar accompaniment, a rare gift of being able to instantly create a spellbinding atmosphere and hold the audience’s attention.” The Raven Folk Club

Oliver was in the studio a couple of weeks ago. Check out his set here.

The Travelling Bnad

Following on from the critical and fan acclaim of their last album ‘The Big Defreeze’ in 2014, Manchester five-piece The Travelling Band infiltrated and infatuated new listeners whilst still retaining the excitement and enthusiasm that enthralled existing fans. With the dust settled on album number three, the indie folkers are set to continue their journey in 2015 with bated breath. Drenched with a massive sound that skips between gorgeous pop and giddy highs with caverns of deep folk, ‘The Big Defreeze’ was prized by Q, Uncut, Drowned in Sound (“honeyed harmonies and reverb-soaked guitars”) and Louder Than War (“The Travelling Band paint pictures of vast horizons, rural idyll, and a gentle sense of forward motion which pulls listeners along on a journey through a rich tapestry of folk and Americana”).

The Travelling Band are set to confirm a series of gigs throughout the UK and beyond to continue the adulation from ‘The Big Defreeze’ and use it as impetuous for their next works. A large batch of exciting new material which takes the band down an interesting new road is on the horizon.”

With an awe inspiring ‘live show’ that’s guaranteed to raise the roof, swinging from the most tender heartfelt paean to the blues, to the highest full throttle, barn storming, juke joint boogie stompers, theirs is a show that’s wowing audiences across the land.
Following a hugely successful 2014 UK summer festival tour with invited performances at the ‘Cambridge Folk Festival’, ‘The Y Not Festival’ and a headline slot on the AMUK stage at the ‘Maverick’ Americana Festival, to name a few, the lads were straight back out on the road playing support to the platinum selling ‘Magic Numbers’ on their ‘Alias’ album UK & Ireland tour. … as well as filling up their diary with 2015 festival dates , the band have recently begun working on the next ‘Goat Roper Rodeo Band’ album in London with ‘Romeo Stodart’ acting as producer …. 2015 is looking good for The Goat Roper Rodeo Band.

The Sound You’ll Hear (aka THE SUPREME TRUTH)

GOOD STRONG MUSIC. It will be both VARIOUS and EXTRA SPESH. We do not understand the point of Rihanna but we know that Wu-Tang are forever.

Humans (aka The GOOD and the BADASS)

We play music for good people who have ears and like denim: skinny jeans, baggy jeans, cut-off into hot-pants jeans. And jeans that have Nice’d Up a Dance or two in their time

Drinking (aka The RAPTURE aka The LIBATION)

Two pint buzz is the world’s best buzz: we sell pints. Two-cocktail buzz is also excellent and often too expensive: but not here. Two for one on a variety of lip-smacking brain-shaking cocktails.

Tequila (aka The TEMPTATION of Jesus Chris)

In the year 1600, Tequila was invented by crazy a Mexican especially for lco Cestrians. THAT’s YOU! Together we will celebrate the intelligence and kindness of Don Pedro Sanchez de Tagle by letting you pay 100pesos £1 for one Tequila. Mucho Calor: No Doubt.

Wille & The Bandits [+]

Having toured their eclectic sound with the likes of Deep Purple, Joe Bonamassa, The John Butler Trio and Status Quo; reached number 2 in the UK blues charts; played countless critically acclaimed sets at major music festivals; and been invited to perform at the London Olympics, Wille and the Bandits, without any label backing or injected hype, have built something special, a reputation built on word of mouth for delivering the goods time and time again. The DIY approach takes time, but with every passing day their fan base grows and so does the belief that they will be gracing Europe’s famous arenas very soon.

Wille & The Bandits web

“The Kaiser Chiefs called these guys the new Seasick Steve, but they are much, much more than that; surely designed for big things”Classic Rock Magazine

The band are renowned for creating an astonishingly huge sound for a trio, incorporating hypnotic grooves from world music to heavy rock. The band may use wailing guitars and vocals, six string bass and big drum sounds for heavier numbers and subtler instruments such as double bass, ethnic percussion and various slide guitars for mellower subtleties.

The band has been praised in the press for their albums; bursting at the seams with textures, originality and soul. Rock legends such as Ian Paice, Joe Bonamassa and Francis Rossi have also praised the band’s musicianship.

“Wille is a suberb slide player, I love what these guys are doing”Joe Bonamassa

“Love the soul in their music”Bob Harris

It’s rare to find a band as dynamic as Wille and the Bandits, one that is just as comfortable and as impressive at both ends of the sonic spectrum. In the modern age of disposable music it is refreshing to hear a band that still value the art of creating albums and who continue to bring new instruments and ideas into their songwriting rather than settling for a tried and tested formula. Ten seconds of Youtube will not scratch the surface of the band’s sound and message; this is a band that is very much about discovery.

The band also use being an independent act to their advantage with their last single “Trouble down the line”, released to raise money for the flood victims in the South west of England. As the campaign continues into the tour in October, the band hope to have raised a significant amount of money for a good cause.

Wille and the Bandits have started to gather wider attention with National radio stations in the UK, Belgium and Germany spinning their tracks and radio one listing them as one of the acts to watch out for at Glastonbury 2014:

Voted number 6 in the top ten must see bands at Glastonbury Festival 2014BBC Radio 1

The band seem to have created something that is not an appeal to a particular generation or muso type, their audiences are packed with people from all walks of life, their music crosses cultural and age barriers. The band were picked by the Daily Telegraph as “one of the best live acts in the country” and have now put their live sound to disc with “Live in Gouvy” which was recorded in an intimate, yet famous venue called Ferme de la Madelonne, a working farm in the middle of the Ardenne forest in Belgium. The venue was chosen because of its 40 year heritage of hosting top musicians and its unbelievable acoustics and character. The band wanted a venue where they could literally stare into the audiences’ eyes and feel the energy of the gig and this is exactly what happened. The album will only be available in the UK at the live shows throughout the UK tour in October.
