Everything Is Now DJ Set [+]

Free Entry

everything-is-now

Tony (Anthony Green) Bear is a DJ, multi instrumentalist and composer based in Chester, North West England. As drummer and founding member of ‘ahead of their time’(!) psychedelic space funk pioneers ‘The Fourth Egg’, Tonys’ tentative steps into the world of music began in his early teens.

Throughout the 1990?s Tony studied music and media production at South Cheshire College, West Cheshire College and The North East Wales Institute (now Glyndwr University) in Wrexham.
Through gigging with his band, Tony met and became friendly with a bunch of local djs/promoters and there began his love affair with nightclubs, loud sound systems and entertaining audiences with music in a completely different way from just sitting behind a drum kit or playing the guitar.

“Having been a music fan for years I was already buying most of the records that my mates were playing in the clubs and when I got fed up with being in bands it seemed like an obvious and natural thing to do to switch to djing. It meant I still got the ‘gig buzz’ but without having to put up with a bunch of unreliable musicians and their ‘oh no yoko’ girlfriends.”

Over the next few years, through a combination of luck, bad luck, stupidity and dogged perseverance, Tony has gigged in and around the North West/North Wales/Merseyside area in a variety of different clubs and to a wide range of audiences. Tony was also a resident DJ at John Lockes’ infamous ‘Trash’ night (Fridays @ High Society, Rafaels, Love Street) for the best part of a decade.

“If you care about what you do, and as the years roll by, your appreciation and love for music deepens somewhat. Obviously, you’re going to want to express that when you go out and play music to people. When I go clubbing or to a gig, I want to hear a satisfyingly wide range of tunes plus a bunch of stuff I don’t know. That’s how we learn. I don’t want to hear the same beat all night or the repetitive nostalgia of somebody elses’ half remebered student yesteryears. But, hey, let’s not get all philosophical about this, it’s meant to be a laugh isn’t it?”

Tony is currently working on his own original music (because he misses being in a band, shhh it’s a secret) and is a resident DJ at Telfords’ Warehouse in Chester. He plays the first Saturday of every month under his ‘Everything is Now’ moniker.

” If you look back over the last fifty or sixty years of popular music, there’s literally millions of songs and records out there that still sound just as good today as when they were released. My mate Ed said ‘If it can be played now then it’s a now record.’ I tend to agree, but that’s only half the story. These days, when I DJ I want to blend all those hip tracks from back in the day with contemporary stuff because whether you like it or not, good music is being released all the time. I love big fat electronic beats, trippy bleeps and massive bass etc. It’s all about striking the right balance on the dancefloor… and having fun.”

REPENT feat. Pacific [+]

Free Entry

Pacific

Pacific are an Alternative band from Cheshire.

The band consists of brothers/songwriters Anthony Orzel – Vocals/Piano and Daniel Orzel – Bass/Backing Vocals, Dave Bithell – Lead Guitars/Backing Vocals and Drew Burns – Drums/Percussion.

Pacific’s outstanding new single ‘Time To Forget’ was released on Monday 23rd February 2015. The official music video was released on 1st December 2014, to exceptional praise by music bloggers across the country. The Piano-led Alternative Indie/Rock tune reaped Pacific’s first BBC Radio 1 play on the Huw Stephens show, along with more than 80 further radio stations playing the song nationwide. Reviewers unwaveringly hailed the song, exclaiming “mainstream success could be on the way for these boys as Time To Forget is an absolute beauty”, praising it for its “flavoursome sound and masterful craft”, concluding that “it’s got that bit of magic, something undeniable, something brilliant. Never mind a band for the future… Pacific are a band for right now”.

Pacific have previously received strong backing from BBC 6’s Mark Radcliffe, who praises the band’s music as “outstanding”. With BBC Stoke Introducing’s Rob Adcock inviting the band for live interviews and sessions, NME featuring the music video for past single ‘Dream of Mine’ (which has now hit over 20,000 views on Youtube!) and being included in Napster’s ‘New and Good’ Playlist, it’s no wonder we’re expecting huge things from this essential young band.

‘Time To Forget’ offers the first taste of the band’s new material from their forthcoming debut EP set to be released later this year. With 3 more fantastic new tracks set to be revealed over the coming months, we highly recommend keeping Pacific on your radar.

“I think this is in another league… A wonderfully well-crafted song with a vocal that’s nectar for the ears.” – Bauer Media News

“Competent sounding Pop/Rock with a hint of Alt. in there. I must confess the very strength of the melodious Anthony Orzel (singer) and the fact that this is a decent song won me over, I will be keeping an eye!” – Simon Li of Universal Music

“Up-beat, beautiful pop-rock with the most addictive vocals. Those Orzel brothers sound irresistible!” – Polly James, Capital Radio

“If future songs from Pacific are half as good as Dream of Mine, they’ll be one amazing listen!”– Rob Adcock, BBC Introducing

We play music for good people who have ears and like denim: skinny jeans, baggy jeans, cut-off into hot-pants jeans. And jeans that have Nice’d Up a Dance or two in their time

Drinking (aka The RAPTURE aka The LIBATION)

Two pint buzz is the world’s best buzz: we sell pints. Two-cocktail buzz is also excellent and often too expensive: but not here. Two for one on a variety of lip-smacking brain-shaking cocktails.

Tequila (aka The TEMPTATION of Jesus Chris)

In the year 1600, Tequila was invented by crazy a Mexican especially for lco Cestrians. THAT’s YOU! Together we will celebrate the intelligence and kindness of Don Pedro Sanchez de Tagle by letting you pay 100pesos £1 for one Tequila. Mucho Calor: No Doubt.

The Ramonas [+]

Free Before 9pm, £4 Thereafter

The ramonas 1

The Ramonas are the UK’s only all girl tribute to the Ramones, one of the most influential punk rock bands in history.

The band were formed in honour of the Ramones back in 2004, by Clare Pproduct (Guitarist in UK cult rock band AntiProduct and bass player in Marky Ramones blitzkrieg) after having backed up Marky Ramone as Johnny at the Underworld in England.

The Ramonas capture the magic which the Ramones had in their early days with their intense on stage energy levels whilst looking much better than Joey, Johnny, Dee Dee or Marky ever did.

The girls have toured all around the UK & Europe and guarantee a good night out… Unfortunately it will never be possible to see the Ramones live again so the Ramonas are the next best thing for any punk rock fan.

  • “As a bit of a hardcore fan of the Ramones I can honestly say that these girls do their heroes justice”Glasgow ABC Review
  • “Welcome, Ronny, Chloe, Pee Pee and Margy. Well, I’m glad to say, other than The Ramonas being English, mid-20?s and good-looking, they’re entirely authentic”Extreme Listening Mode Review
  • “The audience, was captivated, edging ever closer to the stage as the group continued to blast through a slew of perennial favourites “Plymouth Herald Review

International Talk Like A Pirate Day with The Wee Bag Band [+]

Pirates

Now into its third year at Telford’s, International Talk Like A Pirate day is becoming somewhat of a tradition. This year we’ll embrace the swashbuckling, scallywags and their wenches in a camaraderie of drinking games, sword fights and treasure hunts. Batten down the hatches we’re goin’ to sea… Aaarrgggghhhhh!

Sea Shanty’ provided by The Wee Bag Band…

The Wee Bag Band 1

The Wee Bag Band consist of 5 musicians Paul Bassom, Rory McGough, Steve Owen, Julian Anderson & Alan Colinson. From time to time they have the odd (sometimes very odd) musician join them.

Paul & Rory met in back in 1993 and as both of them have a keen interest in music they soon hit it off. Problem was that at that time Rory was based in Denbigh while Paul was based in London. In 1998 Paul moved up to Denbigh allowing them more time to develop their musical style. Since 2001 they have been playing in pubs & clubs in and around North Wales. Wanting to create a more dynamic sound Alan joined in 2003.

With the introduction of Jim the Flute early in 2007 followed by Jules the Fiddle later that year and more recently Steve the bass the band were often seen out & about as a 5 & 6 piece and capable of delivering the unique energetic sound called Irish Music

Oh.! and the name…….? Well lets just say we were under the influence of something a tad iffy when we came up with that one and were stuck with it now

Hedge Gods

Hedge Gods

Hedge Gods was formed in 2012 in Old Colwyn, North Wales. Three musicians with extensive experience and an ear for the unusual combine double bass, acoustic guitar and hand-drumming to weave sonic tapestries of questionable sanity and undeniable appeal.

“With the opening bars of their first piece, amazed glances were shared all over the venue…The Hedge Gods were a truly unique experience.” – Threshold Festival

Fusing accomplished playing with a lack of adult supervision, Hedge Gods have been variously described as “Pulp Fiction meets Tom Waits” and “The future sound of Skiffle”. Describing themselves as an instrumental rhythmic acoustic power trio, Hedge Gods continue to defy categorisation. When a band builds its entire style on “musical differences”, there is literally no excuse for stopping!

“I’d rather be sat in a field staring into the deep blue sky listening to this acid jazz funk folk fusion all day – they are dripping with talent and have created a festival scene of their very own.” – Link2Wales

Tom Martin

Originally from Blackpool Tom moved to Chester to study Music. Tom has a unique and powerful voice, shades of Tom Waits and Bruce Springsteen, and he plays exciting and diverse range of songs.

Sarah Mansfield

Despite being a relative newcomer to her local acoustic scene, Sarah Mansfield has achieved a lot in only a few short months, and has remained focused In practicing her craft whilst performing in a wealth of locations.

Her influences include Alanis Morrisette, Indie/Folk outfit Daughter, and Damian Rice, which come across in her unique style.

Since moving to Chester in October 2014, Sarah has collaborated with a variety of musicians, and regularly performs across the North West.  After recently completing a live session performance for Chester based series The Narrowboat Sessions, she is currently working on her debut release, with production from fellow Folk artist Jon Coley.

When not performing, Sarah maintains a full time job in the music industry as a manager for music development house Stage:Life LTD.

Sarah hopes to continue to build her career in music as she writes and performs further afield, whilst contributing to music from fellow artists.

DJ support is provided this month by Ole Smokey and Tony Bear.

Open Mic Session with Rusty Mahone [+]

Free Entry

Rusty Mahone

Tonight folks, our theme will be-

Sadness….

If an outsider were to criticise ‘open mic’ they would comment on the ‘self indulgent mediocrity’ and ‘bedroom pathos’, and yes, the open mic can be a mournful evening.

My attempt to kick it into the happysphere for this week is to embrace all that is bad and sad, and aim for an evening of epically sad songs. The thinking is, that usually when I set a theme, people ignore it and sing about unreciprocated love, and the perils of acne anyway. So if I encourage this, I’m hoping that people will up the tempo out of defiance.

I know it won’t work, and I know that few people read this, so smirking rights to those that do. However. I do intend to reclaim ‘sadness’ as an entertainment, by hamming it up further than any politician dare go.

https://youtu.be/XnVxFYJUdr0 If you don’t believe me, have a listen to this- there is gold out there! Five pints down (opening set, obviously) letting the sadness flow from the stage like a non-too-subtle whiff of NO2, not a dry eye in the house–

So come along, and lets play games and subvert normality, let’s laugh at tragedy and guffaw at pathos, because, when presented correctly, they’re fucking hilarious.
