Blackbeard’s Tea Party [+]

Free Before 9pm, £4 Thereafter

advance tickets available from seetickets.com*

“Voted best band at last year’s Cropredy Convention, and named THE band to see at Glastonbury by the Huffington Post, 2014 also saw Blackbeard’s Tea Party make a huge impact at festivals as diverse as Shrewsbury Folk Festival, Costa Del Folk in Spain, and the Rainforest World Music Festival in Borneo. With this growing reputation, it’s hardly a surprise that they are one of the most in-demand bands on the folk circuit.

Now we’re happy to welcome Blackbeard’s Tea Party back to Telford’s with their brand of gutsy folk rock. Traditional songs and folk tunes are given a heavy rock edge with playful arrangements and driving dance rhythms. This is all mixed up in an engaging, high-octane stage show that frequently leaves audiences cheering for more.”

Blackbeard's Tea Party 2

Playing together since summer 2009, Blackbeard’s Tea Party began as a busking, function and ceilidh band, but quickly grew a reputation as a formidable live act. They soon found themselves selling out venues in their home town of York.

Word quickly spread, and the band began to play gigs further afield, including a number of noteworthy festival concerts and ceilidh bookings through 2010 and 2011. These included Sidmouth, Shrewsbury and a headline slot at Galtres, amongst others.

During this time, Blackbeard’s Tea Party released a mini-album (Heavens to Betsy, 2009) and a full length album (Tomorrow We’ll Be Sober, 2011) to excellent critical acclaim and public response. Both were funded and distributed independently.

After the release of Heavens to Betsy the band’s distinct sound was picked up by the BBC’s Mike Harding, who played Blackbeard’s Tea Party on BBC Radio 2’s weekly folk show.

Since the release of Tomorrow We’ll Be Sober – which R2 Magazine gave a five star rating – Blackbeard’s Tea Party have gone from strength to strength. They were recognised as one of the best live bands in the UK in the 2011 FATEA Awards and 2012 saw a long run of festival bookings, including Cambridge and Whitby, and return visits to Sidmouth and Shrewsbury, amongst others.

2013 saw the band continue to grow. In April, Blackbeard’s Tea Party issued their second full length album “Whip Jamboree”, released nationwide through Proper Music Distribution and reaching #4 on the Amazon MP3 folk charts alongside continued critical praise. In support of the release the band embarked on 2 UK headline tours playing far and wide in both the Spring and Autumn.

In between touring, Summer provided a stunning festival season including return visits to Sidmouth (3 consecutive years), Beverley and another headline slot at Galtres, alongside breaking into more mainstream festivals such as Bingley Live and Hull Freedom Fest.

In 2014, Blackbeard’s Tea Party experienced their biggest and best year to date. They finally signed up for their passports and branched out into international gigs, playing at the first Costa Del Folk Festival in Spain, and headlining the Rainforest World Music Festival in Borneo. At home, the band continued to support “Whip Jamboree” with their longest and most prestigious festival run to date, including slots at Glastonbury, Fairport’s Cropredy Convention, Shrewsbury Folk Festival, another Galtres headline and Larmer Tree Festival!

2015 sees the band embark on another long run of festivals (with bookings still being taken!) and the end of the year holds some very exciting plans that they cannot possibly reveal yet!

Baby Brave

Baby Brave 1

Say Hello to BABY BRAVE, Wrexham’s lethal injection of noise-pop sunshine. Emmi Manteau (Guitar/Vocals), Steve Nicholls (Guitar), Mike Jones (Drums), and Sian O (Bass) got together two years ago and quickly began creating classic pop songs drenched in droning, distorted, feedback.

The end result is a sound as reminiscent of Tilly and The Wall and B52’s, as it is My Bloody Valentine and St. Vincent.

The band have supported Charlotte Church, Slow Club and Stealing Sheep, played various festivals including Wickerman and Edinburgh Fringe, and are now heading out on the road to play anywhere and everywhere in support of their latest E.P. ‘King Horse’ released in August 2014.

Campfire Social

Campfire Social

A great band.

Those Godamn Hippies

Those Goddamn Hippies

THOSE GODDAMN HIPPIES stitch together carefully chosen sounds with desperately honest vocals. Mixing acoustic and electronic elements to create a lush melancholic atmosphere for weaving melodies and personal lyrics. At times fragile and at times bold with declarations of hope, British born artist Tom Marsh’s solo project is refreshingly insightful.

The ‘Hippies’ sound explores the area between singer songwriter and electronica. Utilizing synthesizers to translate simple guitar riffs, looping short melodic patterns to create intricate sequences, Tom draws on his rich musical background as part of his inspiration.

After spending almost a decade touring the globe as a drummer, swapping London for a studio in Berlin and finally finding the peace and quite needed to begin writing in Vienna, Tom decided to focus all of his curiosity and energy into one project.

The Lewis Hamilton Band

From an early age Lewis listened to wide range of music. When he turned twelve years old, he was given a Squire Stratocaster™, his first electric guitar. Taking influence from great guitarists such as, Stevie Ray Vaughan and Eric Clapton, he quickly developed a passion for guitar led ‘Blues-Rock’ and spent hours every day learning tips and tricks from his idols. Now, at the age of twenty Lewis has developed a guitar style that has been compared to Joe Bonamassa and Eric Johnson. Vocally, he takes influence from the likes of Dave Mathews and John Mayer and writes his own music. Over the years he has performed with such notable musicians as Aynsley Lister (for whom he filled in vocals at a live show), Ryan McGarvey, Henrik Freischlader, Alan Nimmo, Chantel McGregor and Ben Poole. As a guitarist he pays tribute to some of the greatest musicians of the 20th century, taking influence from people like Stevie Ray Vaughan, Jimi Hendrix and Rory Gallagher. He also incorporates playing styles from more modern blues-rock musicians such as, Joe Bonamassa, Derek Trucks and Matt Scofield. As a vocalist he has developed his own unique and powerful style of singing, while taking influence from the likes of Joe Cocker and Dave Mathews. His debut album Gambling Machine won the Scottish New Music Award for Scottish Jazz/Blues album of the year for 2012. Candlelight & Sympathy from Empty Roads will feature on the soundtrack of a new feature film ‘Scar Tissue’. I Am Kloot’s singer songwriter John Bramwell, returns to the stage this autumn 2015, armed with his first set of brand new songs since the bands UK 2014 top ten album ‘Let It All In’.

John Bramwell

During 2014 the Mercury prize nominated songwriter (robbed) sporadically turned up at venues in “Any town, anywhere” throughout the UK. Playing a different set every night, and trying out stripped down versions of his 100 or so previously released songs, he regaled, beguiled and during certain parts of the set just flat out confused Kloot fans old and new.  After fifty or so performances of varying length, spontaneity and cohesiveness and armed with a new found confidence in his storytelling abilities, he returned to his home in Crewe and put the finishing touches to his studio / garage and set about recording new songs for his debut solo single ‘Times Arrow’.

With these recordings ready for release to coincide with the tour and a bag of classic songs and great stories, John Bramwell brings poetry, great guitar playing, a beautiful, unique voice and a little chaos to a town near you.

Likened to a split personality, they knock you out with one hand, while picking you up with the other. It’s like watching a storm flatten a building, with anger and fury one minute, then seeing the sun break through the next. It morphs from chaotic to calm in the beat of a drum. A lethal combination of heavy, moody, hard driven, beat laden funk rock, and hip-hop and soaring, warming, uplifting soul with raunchy blues.

A special Halloween show from Chester’s punk bluesters Brazen Swagger. Boo!

Drawing influence from the likes of The Ramones, Against Me! The Gaslight Anthem and The Swingin’ Utters, it’s music for the poor and ugly. Chester home grown locals using vocals, guitar, bass and drum to create a sound as familiar as an old friend but as different as a tramp with a switchblade waiting in an empty alleyway
