The Rainbreakers [+]

Free Before 9pm, £4 Thereafter

15049551_1200658349999546_90609360_n

“The four-piece have a refreshing approach to blues rock in a style which you don’t hear too much of on the British blues circuit. Their sound channels the greats of the 60s and 70s, yet with a modern twist and a healthy dose of soul. The Rainbreakers may hail from Shrewsbury, UK, but their groove tells you Austin, Texas.”

-National Blues Review-

Since forming in 2012, Rainbreakers have developed their sound into a fusion of dynamic elements, bridging the gaps between Blues, Rock, Pop and Soul, exemplifying a diverse and ever-growing musical palette. The songs can shift between gritty to delicate in an instant while the melodic and pop-like hooks combined with the raw and garage-esque backdrop forge an inspiring combination. Ultimately the band’s outlook is to produce authenticity, may that be lyrically or sonically, to create a sound that truly represents themselves as well as their experiences.

The band’s spirit draws significant influence from older artists such as Free and Humble Pie, yet expresses a strong connection with contemporary bands like The London Souls, The Black Keys, Monophonics and Gary Clark Jr. Although Rainbreakers evidently show a great fascination with sounds from the past, they are by no means purists.  While recalling elements of their predecessors, the band has a clear foothold within the sounds of their own generation and strives to craft a melting pot of musicianship, ranging from soul melodies and psychedelic sounds to garage-rock riffs and R&B grooves.

£15 Tickets

see

johnbramwell

I Am Kloot’s singer songwriter John Bramwell, returns to the stage this autumn 2015, armed with his first set of brand new songs since the bands UK 2014 top ten album ‘Let It All In’.

During 2014 the Mercury prize nominated songwriter (robbed) sporadically turned up at venues in “Any town, anywhere” throughout the UK. Playing a different set every night, and trying out stripped down versions of his 100 or so previously released songs, he regaled, beguiled and during certain parts of the set just flat out confused Kloot fans old and new.  After fifty or so performances of varying length, spontaneity and cohesiveness and armed with a new found confidence in his storytelling abilities, he returned to his home in Crewe and put the finishing touches to his studio / garage and set about recording new songs for his debut solo single ‘Times Arrow’.

With these recordings ready for release to coincide with the tour and a bag of classic songs and great stories, John Bramwell brings poetry, great guitar playing, a beautiful, unique voice and a little chaos to a town near you.

“Arguably the UK’s finest export” – THE NEW YORKER

“Great songs, great voice. The real thing”-  TIME OUT

“Utterly compelling, quite beautiful and frequently hilarious” – THE GUARDIAN

15894707_1694359837521469_7224539055431691035_n

Billy Bibby & The Wry Smiles are a four-piece band composed of Billy Bibby, Rob Jones, Matt Thomas, and Mike Pearce. This new musical venture fronted by singer-songwriter and founding Catfish and the Bottlemen lead guitarist Billy Bibby has been keeping busy in 2016 with the release of a debut EP, a follow-up single, and over 50 gigs and festival appearances including Focus Wales, Dot to Dot Manchester, Kendal Calling, Coastline, Blackfest, TFest, and Southsea Fest. In addition to building up a solid grassroots following through touring, the band has caught the attention of industry tastemakers such as Adam Walton of BBC Introducing Wales, Clint Boon, Phil Clifton, and Jo Good of Radio X, Tim Cocker of Virgin Radio UK, Jim Gellatly of Amazing Radio, NME, and over 100 other radio and media outlets in the UK and abroad.

Manchester music legend Clint Boon described the band’s music as “that classic sort of British songwriting with a strong nod to Americana” naming Elvis Costello and Bruce Springsteen as points of reference. The band’s influences remain diverse and ever-changing, both classic and cutting edge, with new songs constantly being added to the live repertoire. Although the band is recently formed, reviewers consistently remark that the level of musicianship is such that they play like a veteran ensemble, with Bibby bringing the experience of seven years of gigging and songcraft from his Catfish days to every show and in every heartfelt song he’s written.

Their debut EP BIDE YOUR TIME and the follow up single ‘ARE YOU READY?’ are out now! With Summer 2016 festival bookings behind them, the band looks ahead to more gigging throughout the year. Check Facebook Tour Dates section or www.billybibby.com for the latest festival and gig info.

The Hexmen [+]

Free Before 9pm… £4 After

13608045_10209654184534085_413838396_n

The band was founded by frontman vocalist and harmonica player George Hexman in the late 70s, joining forces with major movers and shakers of the Liverpool music scene. Throughout the 80s and 90s, The Hexmen line-up was a shifting collaboration of local luminaries including members of The Las, Edgar Jones (The Stairs, Oasis, Paul Weller), the Boo Radleys, Elvis Costello (Alan Mayes/Rusty), Electrofixion (Echo and the Bunnymen), Cast and Dr Phibes among others, side projects included Los Rackerteeros ( Charlie Whitney from supergroup Family) and Film soundtracks .

Although they have always been known as a blues band, the Hexmen’s material is not that easy to categorise. The band’s music is blues based certainly but the defining quality of the Hexmen has always been energy with an aggressive, indie edge and a psychedelic undercurrent that lends extra dimensions to the music. Notwithstanding George’s historic links with the 80s and 90s Liverpool music scene, the current band members have an exciting pedigree. George himself, vocals (and a much sought after session blues harp player), has recorded with with some of the most significant indie bands of the past 20 years.

On guitar is Ian Fuller, one of the UK’s foremost blues indie rock guitarists and he has shared the stage with some of the greats. Ian started his musical career around London and was soon gigging at well known Venues such as The 100 club, The Half Moon Putney, Dingwalls etc. His influences include: Gary Moore, Peter Green, Rory Gallagher, Jimi Hendrix, Johnny Winter, Cream.etc
Bass player Mike Cain and  Mat Shaw on drums. Mike & Mat have gigged together for over 25 yrs before joining The Hexmen, their former bands include AgentX, PTP, Fallen Empire, Razor & The Cactus Elves amongst others.
