The Zangwills [+]

Free before 9pm // £4 thereafter.

Free all night with a student card or Telford’s membership.

The Zangwills are a young, North West based band. They formed in May 2017, Jake Vickers, Ed Dowling and Sam Davies met at sixth form college in Northwich, Cheshire and the line-up was completed by Jake’s former school friend Adam Spence on drums.

Each of them bring very different influences to the band and this is reflected in their distinctive sound. Jake and Sam are indie/classic rockers, Ed loves classic rock but is also into funk and Adam likes, ‘heavier stuff’. Their polarised musical tastes bring a mix to The Zangwills sound that makes them quite hard to fit into a slot for comparison. Described as being, ‘like nothing else out there, an immensely valuable quality when so many bands disappear into a slurry of sameness’ by Getintothis.

They are a charismatic band who are generating a lot of interest as their unusual, youthful vibe and energy sets them apart. The four-piece have gained a reputation for their strong live sets, steadily increasing the capacity of host venues. They have a growing army of enthusiastic supporters who seem to be prepared to travel in significant numbers to watch them play live and can somehow already sing along to the lyrics even before the tracks are released

Made in Paris.King Bee’ is a successful album by a hardworking artist whose music is the passion and blues is the starting point. “An album that does not have to be heard in the living room but ‘live’ around the corner in your favorite pub with friends” www.bluesmagazine.nl “a delicious album that belongs to every music collection. Recommended. ( 8.5/10)” www.concertmonkey.be “they remind me of early Dr. Feelgood, the urgency between Wilko and Lee Brilleaux, all the time underpinned by a tight rhythm section. .. They are all excellent.”. www.bluesmatters.com “The Hexmen is one hell of a band. Tight as a duck’s arse. You could slice cheese with some of their songs, they are so sharp” www.godofthunder.co.uk ” A really good album., love the guitar & harmonica playing” Geoff Pesche, Award winning Producer, Abbey Road Studios, London The band was founded by harmonica player and vocalist George Wickstead aka George Hexman in the late 70s, joining forces with major movers and shakers of the Liverpool music scene.
