A Band on Ship [+]

Free Entry

ABOS have been around a long time with collectively over a century of music making under their fingers.

At the core of their fluid collective lies a love of real ale, cider and music, importantly in that order.

“You can have beer without music,  but music without beer is just wrong”

Perhaps their music sounds better after a pint or two, but that could be a universal truth.

These write ups are often heavy on name dropping and light on truth. I wouldn’t stoop that low.

One of the band played bass for Paul McCartney live on radio one.

One of the band was in The Incredible string band.

Two of the band were in Whitesnake (Acoustic)

Two of the band were in the Family Mahone, and one of them once drank half a pint of absinthe for a bet.

All four of them are in Mark Radcliffe’s Galleon Blast, who’s latest album includes a bonus track written by and featuring Roy Wood.

Expect bass and mandolin with guitar, fiddle and accordion. Add in possible guests and you get the idea. From Playford to Dillon via all points in between.

Songs and tunes plundered from 600 years of tradition will leave your feet tapping and your glasses empty,  as you join in the inevitable journey to closing time and a taxi home.

Made in Paris.King Bee’ is a successful album by a hardworking artist whose music is the passion and blues is the starting point. “An album that does not have to be heard in the living room but ‘live’ around the corner in your favorite pub with friends” www.bluesmagazine.nl “a delicious album that belongs to every music collection. Recommended. ( 8.5/10)” www.concertmonkey.be “they remind me of early Dr. Feelgood, the urgency between Wilko and Lee Brilleaux, all the time underpinned by a tight rhythm section. .. They are all excellent.”. www.bluesmatters.com “The Hexmen is one hell of a band. Tight as a duck’s arse. You could slice cheese with some of their songs, they are so sharp” www.godofthunder.co.uk ” A really good album., love the guitar & harmonica playing” Geoff Pesche, Award winning Producer, Abbey Road Studios, London The band was founded by harmonica player and vocalist George Wickstead aka George Hexman in the late 70s, joining forces with major movers and shakers of the Liverpool music scene. Throughout the early decades, The Hexmen line-up was a shifting collaboration of local worthies, included members of The Las,The Stairs, The Real People,The Boo Radleys, Electrofixion and Dr Phibes & The House of Wax Equation to name a few.
